The Unconventional Diner has become one of our go to places in Mt. Vernon Square. Initially, we had taken my parents for weekend brunch and the one-piece-of-bread french toast dish left us aghast. However, since then, we have discovered Unconventional Diners’ strength lies in their dinner service.
This is the place we go when we are craving something comforting-a burger, fried chicken, or vegetarian chili. The fried chicken dish is the opposite of our french toast experience-giving you four pieces of fried chicken, a house made hot sauce, a side of fantastic gravy, a side of cole slaw, and a biscuit (that is a lot of food). The burger and fries are quality, and hit the spot. Service is always good and dessert will not disappoint (particularly the passion fruit/banana in a chocolate shell we most recently sampled). Don’t expect fancy/mind blowing but do expect a satisfying meal that isn’t super pricey.
